Last week we read books by Eric Carle and studied how he illustrates his drawings. The children were so excited that they wanted to become illustrators just like Eric Carle. So I gave every child a piece of white tissue paper and they had to come up with an animal that they wanted to create. Once they had the animal in mind they painted big sections of all the colors they needed to create their animal. The following day they took their tissue paper and cut out and formed their animal using the colors they painted. Then they had to come up with an action verb for their animal. We based our illustrations from the book Polar Bear, Polar Bear What Do You Hear? So the students had to come up with an animal and a verb as to what sound that particular animal would make. The children had a wonderful time doing this and the book turned out really cute!
